A grand tour demands a grand system: zactrack PRO made its Italian debut lighting up the monumental stages of Vasco Rossi’s 2025 tour.

With more than 35 million records sold and a career spanning over four decades, Vasco Rossi is one of Italy’s most influential and best-selling artists. Vasco Rossi’s Vasco Live 2025 tour had thirteen scheduled concert dates in seven Italian stadiums.

The production company was Live Nation Italia, with lighting design by Giovanni Pinna. zactrack was supplied by Lucidiscena by Pino Loconsole , with direct onsite support provided by Marco Di Febo from RM Multimedia. His setup included a zactrack PRO system with two servers—one main and one backup—Luminex switches, and 30 zactrack trackers, ready to be worn.

Going PRO: Vasco Rossi’s Tour Embraces Full-Scale Tracking

In 2024, Vasco Rossi’s tour featured zactrack SMART, a mid-range system covering areas up to 30 x 30 meters, bringing advanced tracking technology to the stage. For 2025, the production chose zactrack PRO, built to handle the expansive 72-meter Komandante stage.

“The implementation of zactrack PRO was crucial for covering the full size of the stage,” said lighting designer Giovanni Pinna. “There’s also integration with Disguise servers, so when Vasco enters the stage—thanks to the tags he wears—he literally brings specific video images with him. The system has evolved; it’s highly accurate and extremely reliable, and we were very pleased with it. Plus, with the PRO version, we’re no longer limited to 10 tags—we now use 30! This year, I tagged the saxophonist, the backing vocalist, and even Diego Spagnoli for his introductions. It’s truly a tag party!”

Behind the scenes, the tags themselves offer flexibility in placement—they can be worn discreetly in pockets or on belts. For the main act, they were even custom-fitted inside his stage outfits.

Reliable Tracking across 73 Meters of Stage

At the core of zactrack is Ultra Wideband technology, delivering precise 3D localization with centimeter-level accuracy. It ensures robust, stable performance even in radio-dense environments and is far less prone to interference than infrared or traditional RF systems.

“We installed no fewer than 23 anchors along the 73-meter stage, with the highest placed at 17 meters,” explains Marco Di Febo, zactrack tour technology manager for Vasco. “Each musician wore three tags, while Vasco himself had four, to ensure maximum precision.”

With 23 anchors, this year’s deployment was more extensive than the 2024 setup with the SMART system—but thanks to zactrack PRO’s straightforward workflow, it posed no real challenge. “The installation was obviously more complex than last year, so I worked with an assistant, Daniele Ercolani, whose contribution was crucial—especially since calibration required a laser system to align each anchor individually. Still, we managed to complete system calibration in about an hour, plus another two hours to calibrate the 30 projectors linked to zactrack—after hardware installation and cabling the day before. Thanks to zactrack PRO, the lighting was always perfect; even with a rig of more than 700 fixtures, the performers were lit flawlessly from every angle.”, empathises Marco.

Since 2022: zactrack supports Vasco Rossi live

Vasco Rossi first used zactrack technology during his 2022 "Live 022" stadium tour. Lighting designer Giovanni Pinna discovered it at a demo in Rimini and, impressed by its flexibility and potential to replace traditional follow spots, integrated the Zactrack SMART system into the show.

Now, with Vasco Live 2025, zactrack PRO made its Italian debut—bringing even greater precision and reliability to the stage. Giovanni used the system not just for technical tracking but as a creative tool to shape both lighting and video interactions in real time. Its seamless integration and ease of use opened up new possibilities, allowing the team to rethink how performer movement could drive the overall stage experience.
